Established since 1980, New Formosa Restaurant has been serving its diners authentic Taiwanese style dishes ranging from snacks, main dishes as well as delicate desserts. It is located in the hustle and bustle of SS2 Petaling Jaya.
Not to be missed out in any meal during Chinese New Year is Yee Sang. Start your meal with Formosan Salmon Yee Sang. Mixed with salmon stripes, shredded fresh and preserved vegetables and sauces, it signifies abundance and prosperity, a must-have for the Chinese.

Next on the menu are the special Sesame Chicken and Butter Eel. The Sesame Chicken is very crispy as a light batter is used. Meanwhile, the Butter Eel is strong in aroma and taste from the butter and curry leaves used. Crispy from the outside and juicy from the inside, this dish is simply irresistible.

Then, have the Two-Variety Prawns of skewered grilled prawn and Butter Prawns. Fresh prawns are used in this dish making it a delightful plate of juicy prawns.

Fish is another must-have during this festive season as it also signifies abundance. New Formosa Restaurant has prepared Steamed Local Pomfret with Taiwanese Preserved Tree Seeds. The seeds are added into the sauce to aid in digestion plus adding a soury flavour to the delicate fish.

The star of the meal would be the Roasted Chicken stuffed with Eight Treasures. The ‘eight treasures’ includes three types of unpolished rice, mushrooms, chestnuts, dried shrimps and Chinese sausages. These ingredients are stuffed into the chicken and roasted to perfection.

Behold when you cut open the chicken as an abundant of ‘treasures’ unfold before you. With the mixture, it gives a fusion of tastes as it brings together the texture of unpolished rice and chestnut, fragrance from the mushroom and dried shrimp and savoury from the Chinese sausages. Also, the goodness of the treasures is infused into the chicken, making it flavourful on its own.
For something light, try the Fried Vegetables with Pomelo Sacs and Almond Flakes. The pomelo sacs and almond flakes add texture and sweetness to the overall dish.

Another New Formosa’s specialty is the Steamed Yam Rice in Hollow Bamboo Taiwanese Hakka style. Chunks of yam are steamed with rice and dried shrimps giving it a blast of aroma.

For dessert, Yam Ginkgo is served. This yam pudding is wonderfully prepared and extremely smooth. Have it together with pumpkin puree where it adds the natural sweetness of the pumpkin to the yam pudding. This dessert is also suitable for the older generation as it is low sugar and contains no lard. Plus, it is topped with ginkgo making it a healthy dish.

For more texture, have the assorted pudding. Ranging from a variety of flavours, it includes Low Sugar Vegetarian Ginkgo Pudding, Custard Caramel Pudding, Mango Pudding, Japanese Green Tea Aloe Vera Pudding and Honey Herbal Pudding. Despite the bland looking pudding, it contains full flavour of its own kind.
